Adding 2FA on my Anycoin Direct account
When creating an account on Anycoin Direct, we advise you to add an extra layer of security on top of your password. Why? Because almost any account you own online is prone to being hacked. The easiest way to add an extra security layer is to enable two-factor authentication, also known as two-step verification or 2FA. Two-step verification adds an extra step to the account holder's (you) login attempt. For the authentication, you are going to need your mobile.
How does it work? When you have implemented 2FA, an extra screen will appear after entering your password. In this screen you need to enter a six-digit code. This code will be provided by the 2FA application. That means that a mobile phone is required. Once the password and the 2FA code are correct, you can access your account.
First you need to have the Two-Factor Authentication application on your mobile phone. Go to the Google Playstore or Apple App Store and download this application: Google Authenticator.
Go to your Anycoin Direct account dashboard (top right corner, ‘account’). Here you will see a menu on the left side of the screen. Click account (in the left menu) to view more options. Here you can find the Two-Factor authentication button. Select this option and you will enter the next screen (where a QR code is visible).
Open the Authenticator application that you have downloaded and add a new 'login option'. The application will present you an option where you can scan a barcode. Select this option and scan the QR code on the Anycoin Direct webpage.
Anycoin Direct is now added on the Authenticator application and a six-digit code should now be visible. Enter the six-digit code below the QR code and press the ‘Save’ button. Every time you log into your Anycoin Direct account, you need to enter a new six-digit code. This code will be generated every thirty seconds on your 2FA application. So remember that when you want to log into your Anycoin Direct account, you will need your mobile phone.
Deleting 2FA on my Anycoin Direct account
We really recommend you to use the Two-Factor Authentication. But there are certain situations where the Authenticator needs to be removed. When your mobile phone is stolen or broken for example. The number one advise that we can give you in almost every situation is: contact us on the live chat! Here we can help you step-by-step in one of these following situations:
- My mobile phone is broken or stolen
- I have a new or different mobile phone
- I have deleted the 2FA application
- I have reset my mobile phone to the factory settings
The 2FA application generates an invalid code: Make sure that the date and time settings of your mobile device are correct. Wrongly set clock and time options will result in invalid 2FA codes.
None of the above. I just want to remove the 2FA: Although we do not recommend it, you can manually remove the Two-Factor Authentication from your account. Go to your Anycoin Direct account dashboard (top right corner, ‘account’) where you will see a menu on the left side of the screen. Click account, to view more options and select the Two-Factor authentication option. Enter the six-digit code from the application and remove the Authenticator from your account.
